Red DragonI think the current “Minstrel” in the IC must be a classical music composer. The fall of classical music in the public eye is constantly resisted by the already ascended musician, thus people who still claim that classical is the only “real” music. A jazz musician did not ascend because of racism (pushed by the agents of the ascended minstrel) and the complexity of the music compared to the rising rock n’ roll. Rock n’ Roll was easy for people to understand and accept, truly simple, like the folk music BEFORE the rise of classical music. It hit on something primal, that the earliest minstrel avatars had.
As for a censor archetype, that would be good, though I’m more inclined to think that these may be renounced ex Invisible Clergy members. For example an avatar of the free thinker or rebel who was booted out and now fights against free thought or rebeliousness.
Red DragonWell, the King is trying to stamp out pop music because it is a new take on the archetype that he is trying to redefine as the King of Rock N’ Roll (the original archetype is the minstrel). He’s been losing some power because of the rise of crappy pop music, which removes rock n’ roll from mass consciousness. The Kingsmen try to keep Elvis in the public consciousness by performing as Elvis impersonators (many of them are personamancers). He is facing a two front battle, though, because rock is also riddled with others trying to mold King of Rock N’ Roll to their way. The way I see it, as with everyone in UA, Elvis is not “Good” and not “Evil”, he’s manipulative, selfish, and corrupted as all hell by his drive for power. What might have been pure about him has been drained by his years of battling the current minstrel (I don’t know who it should be yet), and every year he spends fighting reduces his chances of getting in. Basically he is in a losing battle. He is REALLY dangerous because of the desperation of his situation, and still a Godwalker. Boy bands are not much of a threat, because they represent several different archetypes (the “bad boy”, the “soulful baby face”, the “front man”, the “near 40 year old pretending to be 18”, etc. etc. ).Spears may not be so dangerous, though, because she is probably channelling the “bimbo” or the “slutty virgin”. The biggest advantage that the King has is this is OU stuff and most record execs don’t know about it, nor do most pop stars, or even other rock n rollers.
That’s just my take on Elvis, I just present my idea here to give people a different take on where the King is. If you want a noble Elvis trying to defend Rock N’ Roll’s honor, thats cool, I just thought it would be fun to have him be responsible for the “27 Club”.
By the way, does anyone have a possible numeralogical reason why 27 is the time they get iced? I suppose 2+7=9 and 9 is 3+3+3… most of them first become a threat in their mid twenties, perhaps someone who was in their thirties would be killed at 36, or somone in their teens at 18, and so on.
Red DragonSome other highlights include Jimi Hendrix’s experimentation as a narco-alchemist, and possible trying to combine it with a form of “music magic”. Hendrix was actually into this kind of thing. The Beatles broke up because they had two high level minstrels and at too high a level they just can’t get along (Elvis’ folks took care of the more popular one when his solo career became a threat). Michael Jackson was channeling the minstrel until he became an avatar of the Mystic Hermaphrodite (Latoya is his female form). The Greatful Dead’s powerful cabal that failed to protect Jerry from the Kingsmen after years of keeping them away. I think the Cabal could be either a powerful enemy or ally. Not all Elvis impersonators are in the Cabal, but the Cabal recruits from the most devoted. Of course their obsession must be Elvis.
Red DragonI’m still trying to figure out the channels for the Minstrel archetype. What I have so far is at 1-50% mood amplification by performance. That’s why people either REALLY love or REALLY hate the performer and riots can be incited by upping the anger, or suicide caused by upping the depression. Most avatars don’t know they are avatars, so they don’t know that their performances and recordings really can cause suicide, or super-rebelliousness. At 51-70 they can ALTER someone’s emotions, changing them to what the avatar wants people to feel. I’m at a loss for higher level channels so far, but I’m working on it.
Red DragonPerhaps such a thing may have happened after an athlete retired. Being booted out causes them to become the antithesis of their archetype. Look at OJ (could he have ascended only to be kicked out again?), how about Jordan (once had a teflon reputation and was god of his sport, after “retirement” he’s not very good and surrounded by scandal, or perhaps he broke Taboo?)
