This is a pretty good idea… hell, it got me thinking and I might be putting something similar in my game. However, IMHO, I don’t think the idea of a Gray Archetype is all that solid. From the way I understand things, the archetypes are archetypes of people, human beings. They seem to be representations of all that we are capable of and how we see and think of our selves and our role as human beings. Your idea of a gray archetype kind of steps outside those realms since its, well, not human and, as such, is not something we can really be. This doesn’t mean that your idea is not good though.
Just from what you wrote, I don’t think you really need a gray archetype. The idea of a whacked out clockworker flying around in his own hand built UFO abducting trailer trash and shoving a clockwork up their ass is something that I cant get out of my head now. To support the core idea (and still work in the idea of a Gray Archetype), the clockworker could still be trying to implant and solidify the idea of the Gray Archetype so that he may ascend as the first Gray. However, since avatars only get channels if their archetype has a representative in the IC, the clockworker wouldn’t get any powers or channels for his obsessive pursuit of becoming a Gray. In fact, he would have absolutely no idea if he is even on the right track or not. That fact probably doesn’t matter much though as it still all adds up to where you were going with your idea. You still have a mad clockworker who is trying to ascend as a Gray Alien Archetype by running around and playing alien. It doesn’t matter if he actually can pull it off or not, he still believes he can and acts as if he will and that’s what will probably concern the players.
The clockworker probably does not even need any extra powers to be suitably alien like. After all, he could pretty much build any “alien” device he could think of… a UFO (either took a whole hell of a lot of sig charges or a major one to build) that almost seems like it was pulled from a turn of the century sci-fi novel, some significant automatons that look like grays, etc.
Hope I’ve helped…
Hi all… I’m new to the forum and all but couldn’t resist tossing in my 2 cents on this.
I totally agree with the above -no one could ever really hope to channel the WECHBY. In order to do so, the Avatar hopeful must be one hell of a slut yet not have sex with anyone. After all, she has to be had by Everyone but, unfortunately, Everyone is full of a lot of Yous. Who ever she has sex with will be a “You” and since “You” had her, she breaks taboo and is no longer the WECHBY but if she has no sex, then she’s not had by “Everyone” and, again, breaks taboo.
Due to that core paradox of the NG, she can not really have traditional Avatars (unless said avatars were real creative). However, because of the paradoxical nature of the WECHBY, people trying to fallow her path, become her, are far more likely to fall upon a school of magic (enter Pornomancy) then an avatar path. So it could be said, in a weird kind of way, that pornomancers are “avatars” of the WECHBY.
