WHOOOPS!
forgot the end of the sentence there… :9
“ANS is a goddess who made her own humiliation and complete disagreable position into a thing of envy some how and then when all else fails and she dies “mysteriously”(I mean c’mon the woman did methadone and painkillers how can that be seen as a “mysterious death”?)”

she is both revered and despised, grieved for and ignored.
WTF? 🙂
No smacktalking about the queen of white trash please! ANS is a goddess who made her own humiliation and complete disagreable position into a thing of envy some how and then when all else fails and she dies “mysteriously”(I mean c’mon the woman did methadone and painkillers how can that be seen as a “mysterious death”?)
I mean what do we have now? The crazy antics of former virgin-singer-dancer Britney Spears?
I mean tell me one more public figure who made her whole life through degrading herself and who can in such a fine way describe the dark side of western culture?
And the wierd part is that there is a need to make her death a conspiracy…
You gotta agree that her whole life could be described as “the life and death of a postmodern priestess” 🙂

I would like to add one thing:
Riots vary in method from country to country and depending on whose rioting. I mean the rules are made for everyday strollers, commuters and such going crazy when they see a guy do magic but depending on where you are and what kind of witnesses you have the effects may vary.
For example:
The CPE riots in France last year (2006) where huge, people where really pissed off and EVERYONE was in on it. (seriously I met up with this 60+ yo woman who where there with her grandchildren during the fighting at Place de Republique)
They on the other hand didnt do much damage on buildings and such (it was about 5-20 000 people rioting so… just imagine that in numbers) and they where VERY disorganised.
Where as in Sweden when the riots go of its not that many peoople rioting but they sure can fuck up a building or four and they are extremely organised (moving in groups with a form of commander, using tactics and formation to fight police)
The point is that riots are big, chaotic and not so structuralised as one might want (since we are playing roleplaying games that simulate reality).
In riot scenes with my group I just go nuts and start throwing details at them to make them panic and forcing them to react without thought and then depending on their actions just roll for attacks…
Also remember that even though riots may look like they are kinda slapdash more often then not they DO have a form of reasoning and even though a proverb whose source and proof is never questioned disagree with me I would like to say that a crowd not only might be, but is very often, kinda clever instead of just dumb and panicky.
When the reason for fear or anger is removed the crowd usually goes kinda docile and either start looting, leaving or if they are kinda organised building barricades and setting up for another attack from whatever it was that scared them or made them angry.

Actually shaved off brown hair with grey streaks and yeah crooked teeth (who died and made you my dentist 😀 – if that has actually happened – I got the upper back tooth kicked out in a scuffle a few months ago, could you fix it for me? They kinda got me good with a kick to the side of my head. Also I’ve invested in those teethprotectors that boxers use and a pair of padded gloves (my fingers have started to make cracking noices when I write)… Am I 6’4”?
Ghostwolf69:
Hahaha I live in Gothenburg (But I travel to STHLM every now and then aswell as Malmö), when it comes to bars any will do 😀
Stephen:
Thats my favorite thing too… the way all the texts are written in such a way that you LIKE reading it. Not only because you need to learn the rules and the world but because its written in a way that you WANT to keep reading.
Really fucking OT:
Me and a friend used UA vs D&D as an example of revolutionary vs reformist system design.

Im sorry that I dont remember your name unknown stranger – we kept the envelope you sent the game in and your signature is still in the book.
Both of us (me and my coworker) spent days talking about the surprising kindness of strangers. You made our years at that fucking store seem better, thanks – honest: thank you.
Its too bad that good games have a tendency to disappear in the crap thats easier to sell. (The annoying communist in me has a rant going about the innate problems of an evolved capitalism which hooks up with downloading and filesharing, but Im stopping him right now)
I fell in love with UA between the print stop of UA 1st ed and UA 2nd eds release and all I and a friend had to read where the supplement books. We both worked at a gamestore and we bought everything we could get our hands on when it came to UA. One day i thought I should email Atlas Games and ask when UA 2 was coming out and air my sorrows – just to kill the half hour I had left.
To my surprise someone answered and said that he would send us one of his 1st ed books that he had over if me and my friend promised to buy 2nd ed when it came out!
One UPS later we had it and started a campaign that lasted for well over a year. When the 2nd ed came we both bought it and just through our enthusiasm we sold the rest of the UA2s the game store had quickly.
It pisses me off still to see shelf upon shelf of dungeon crawl BS in game stores and just a few UA supplements hiding in the back.
Too many good damn games never get released… (Im gonna go take some coffee now to avoid a communist rant again)
Anyone ever involved in UA – if you ever get to sweden, email and Ill buy you a round in a bar – your worth that and more!
Jens
Ok… cant the GM just deside what to do instead of there having a need to be rules for everything? The point of having a guy that defines reality in the game kinda gets lost if he or she is supposed to blindly follow some written text.
If your players abuse something in your game you tell them “no”. Thats what I do. Personally I think the highest form of realism is when a game has avoided all the charts and siderules and isntead done a broadly sweaping and quick system that is easy to bend and mold. Also, the more rules you have the less the chance will be that you actually descirbe something realisticly and instead just spend times following silly mini-rules and roll dices that does nothing for the feeling of realism or chance.
I hate that expression “less is more” (its usually such bullshit) but when it comes to RPGs and rules its true.
Well first of all all European countries have their own flavour and classic behaviours. Like Sweden, my home country, which has its own very specific ways to handle things like conflict and with laws and governemtn that is completely different to say… Norway (which is in many different aspects very similare to Sweden).
When me and my friends play UA here we usually set it in the US since there is allot of cultural information about the US via television and movies aswell as having a mythical quality of being a country with everything wierd going on going on.
The problem with European sourcebooks is that since the countries vary so much its impossible to grasp the whole continent just by spitting out plattitudes about the various countries and then you end up with some cliches about the Russian Maffia (if you want bad guys in the former east, try the neo-nazi’s who have a murder campaign right about now), AMsterdam potsmokers and drugfiends and French people with hair under their arms (again, something that I have never seen in France but wtf)
As an example: If I’d write a book about the US without being careful all the clichés in Europe about americans might come to life and in the end it would be a long text about either shit rich, or shit poor overweight people – which is complete BS of course.
The other problem is european history. the old phrace winners write the history books is comepletly true and that becomes kinda obvious when you check what kinda history children in various EU nations get taught. Its a very small area and all have at one point been at war with everyone else. THe Danish king Christian I (I think it was), is called “Christian the kind” in Denmark but in Sweden where he beheaded about 200 people during the 1500eds hes called “Christian the Tyrant”.
Lets not get into Napoleon whos in some countries still considered a saviour of Europe stopped by malovent forces and in some others considered a cruel little dictator.
The point is – you should contact people in all the various countries (there are RPG geeks everywhere) or atleast who have first hand knowledge of the various countries so that the actual flavour of it all comes to life instead of becoming a soup of plattitudes.
(this may sound like Im being a bitch about everything and a general skeptic. Im not an EU source book sounds really cool – Im just scared that the place I live in shall be described, yet again, as a place where sex comes easy, everyones blond and the vikings are still the talk of the town (A tshirt with a viking on it is something tourists have))
I hope I dont sound like a complete whiner or something….

Personally I always found – as a gamemaster that when someone has some wierd ability that should take a score, like body, above 100 I allways demand that they buy a skill instead describing that ability.
(Like “Cyborg” a body skill where you can, if you succeed ignore damage or something)
Mostly because otherwise it might risk becoming a hunt for bigger and bigger stats.

How about Tyr, the norse god who lost his right arm when he tried to chain the Fenris wolf. He stuck the chain loop over his shoulder and put the arm in the wolf’s mouth and while he lost the right arm (his “me time hand”!) he slipped the loop over the wolves head.
Mainly all the norse gods are pretty fair game since they all know they will loose the last battle and they will no matter what, like all the people in Valhalla lose that most significant battle in the end.
Well the original is extremely better… Ernst Hugo JäregÃ¥rd as the horrible Swedish doctor, I mean – Ernst-Hugo damnit! (hes dead now which is just too bad, he was a great actor and had the oddest dialect ever). Riket was just plain better…
Theres a swedish show that I, sadly havent gotten around to see yet, but so far its gotten the WoD and the UA nerds jumping up and down with joy. It doesnt air any more but its available on *cough*ODC*cough*.
Its about a larger organisation and underground of people with “special skills and powers”. It may be crap though…

Looks like someone using a pair of poi-poi’s (you know those things on a string that you set fire to and twirl around – most streetparties here usually have one or two people using those in the crowd).
But it looks like a great photo to use as some kind of prop… and then – well it could be anything
Well avoiding to use money or buy things is not exactly a good way to get rid of capitalism – so no matter how red a persons heart is one can still buy things.
Personally I think the supplements are great (Ive bought them all), if thats because I had allot of money a while back or because I needed some more material I dont know… I think they where worth it none the less.
So BUY – BUY – BUY!!! I wanna kepp playing my favorite game and I want to enjoy new books every now and then.
(as for capitalism, well handle that after during the revolution; “hasta la victoria siempre?”)
