I’m starting a new street level campaign and it looks like the catholic church is going to play a huge roll in it. I have priests that work within the Vatican in various capacities. Problem is, I’m completely ignorant of how the church operates, specifically I need resources on the internal design of the church.
I need to know how agents of the church are organized and directed. I’d like to know the difference between Jesuits, Fransicans, and any other groups.
I don’t need detailed history, which is what I keep finding, just current workings of the church. Thanks.
You could probably do worse than a bit of Goggle-whacking. Hit it up for relevant keywords, and then tighten your search after the first, inevitable, ‘your query returned 180,000 results’
Any ideas on the inner workings of the church then? Like what makes a jesuit a jesuit? I can find oodles of back history, but nothing about what makes the difference today.
Perhaps an archival search on a prominent magazine, such as Time. They’re scupulously good at keeping their past issues available, and probably have a built-in search function.
I suggest you check out the wonderful http://www.xrefer.com/ an online repository for reference books. I’m sure will be able to find out some useful stuff there.
You might want to seek out a copy of the “Constitution on the Church of Vatican Council II”. That should tell you most of what you’d want to know, I’d think. You can get a copy used from amazon for about $5, and might want to look into some of the other books talking about the results of Vatican II.
