Hey there.
I seem to remember reading in one of the UA sourcebooks that no-one really knows how to write rituals these days.
Is that right?
Its possibly been explained in one of the books i dont have but with modern rituals like the Murder Crow hanging around someone, somewhere must be writing them……
Its just something i was thinking about playing with in my game and i was wondering if there was a party line on it.
I think it’s stated in Statosphere that the First and Last Man can create new rituals – or more precisely, he can figure the proper ritual needed to create any effect, short of blasts and major magicks.
Barring that, some adepts could learn them spontaneously, maybe as a result of magick research and major magick casting.
Mind you, I think it would be fun having the characters finding an old, dusty grimoire which contains rituals that require modern components – TV sets, mobile phones, whatever – which clearly didn’t exist when the grimoire was written.
I’m stealing that idea. Its going right into my next game to the player who is all into ritual stuff and paranoid about their authenticity all the while.
In UA, a main source for rituals is demons. Apparently, being on the other side of the veil makes it real easy to see how the world REALLY works.
It’s also the primary reason adepts take chances with demon summoning. Why else would you let a sociopathic spirit into your ritual space or even your body? Knowledge, baby.
But demons are liars, cheats and bastards. They will try to screw a summoner six ways till Sunday before they give in. Hence, the numerous rituals which promise the big stuff but only invite the red meanies into your bloodbag.
Want to learn a new ritual. A brand new one? Call a demon.
Hmm so Demons can pretty much tell you a ritual. So they are more than likely the original source for most rituals but the means of spreading them would be through the Merchant Avatar.
An Avatar I can’t get anyone to play believe it or not.
Since the source is from a demon that probably explains why a ritual is so convoluted and strange. It may really be a simple thing to do but the demon is just being himself and making it that much harder on us meer mortals.
Also, going back to the second post in this thread, that would explain a grimore using objects that were not in existance when it was written. Maybe demons see time in a different view. Or maybe as in Kult Time and Space is an illusion to us or a force simply to be manipulated.
Hmmm… just thinking outloud here.
