Hey guys, I was just wondering: what’s the stand on UA-esque novels? I’m intending to start work on one that uses ideas blatantly from UA (but has no mention of any factions from the books such as TNI or Max Attax; neither does it feature any GMCs from the book), such as avatars, the magick system and adept types. It’s also set in Singapore, if that’s any help.
Would I be infringing on anything (legally, morally, spiritually or otherwise) whatsoever if I were to publish this on the Internet? How about actual print publishing? Or releasing it as a chapter-by-chapter thing on a paper or magazine of sorts?
I’ll appreciate any help on this matter, although the chances of me getting the bloody thing complete is about a bat’s chance in hell, let alone getting it published; but I still like to know my options beforehand nonetheless, in the rare off-chance that I may actually buck up long enough to actually finish writing it. 😛
If you’re going to release it on the net for free, no problem. Write what you like and post it here. If you have any interest in making money from it, online or in print, you need to make up your own stuff and avoid UA’s magick schools, avatars, GMCs, cabals, etc.
