Wotcha.
I’m going to be starting a UA campaign in a couple of months and was interested in general advice on what people think makes a good campaign.
My only previous GMing experience is a couple of Paranoia campaigns, which is obviously quite a different game to run!
The campaigns going to be set in the UK- Manchester, as it’s where most of my players come from. It’s going to be essentialy global level, but with street level starting stats, as I want to keep the power level relatively low until I get a proper handle on the game.
I only owe the main rulebook at the moment, so suggestions on which sourcebooks to priortise (I’m on a limited budget) would also be useful.
Thanks!
Basically all I can say is keep the plot simple, work out as much as is possible before hand. And post your story ideas on the listserv for feedback. Or buy Weep and One Shots.
Oh, uh sorry, Weep has 6 adventures, and One Shots has one shots with pregens.
Oh, and start with Bill in Three Persons. Or some other prewritten adventure. It helps a lot.
Oh, and one last bit, make sure your players know the consquences of waking the sleeping tiger…if they aren’t subtle the riot rules usually will destroy them and the game.
I thought it was really, really tricky to get started on a campaign. Then I asked the players to make some characters, complete including trigger event and some personality descriptions, goals in life, stuff like that. Turned out I didn’t really have to do anything, just take what they gave me and run with it1
also, get on the UA mailinglist as soon as possible, that’s where the real action is!
