I recently finished reading “Rose” by Martin Cruz Smith. His description of The Town of Wigan (same place as Orwell wrote about in “The Road To Wigan Pier”) made it absolutely perfect for a gloomy, horror-filled UA campaign.
The mundane elements of the street level reality for this are straight forward and out of the history books. The magical elements are harder. I pretty much have to build them from at least part of the cosmic level, down through global and then to street.
This requires me to redesign some or all of the ascendant clergy. Hence the purpose of this thread. What would be some good archetypes for 19th Century England? The Robber-Barron, The Imperialist, The Inventor/Innovator, and The Reformer immediately come to mind. What would be some good additions?
Don’t forget that it was the same age as Cowboys and frontiersmen, the last age of Empires, and the Boxer Rebellion in China.
