Hello everyone.
I am starting up my first game and we have stated working on the PC’s, and one of them has Feng Shui as her Obsession, and the soul skill Feng Shui as her obsession skill. This is all well, but I’m left with the question of what it actually does.
I have a few ideas, like maybe a successful check when redecorating a room could give shifts in that room later, or other positive effects, but I’m not sure.
Ideas?
How about a 10% positive shift to actions taken in a Feng Shui’d room? It could be a kind of funky Feng Shui that tunes stuff into the Statosphere. Plus, if you need to throw an Invisible Clergy guided clue at your player, maybe sometimes you find stuff somewhere other than where you left it…
Probably not ideal to give a +10% shift to ALL rolls from a mechanical perspective. Looking at real world Feng Shui might provide an answer though. Feng Shui is highly situational and individual – proper Feng Shui readings require not only a look at the room’s location, circumstances and use, but also the person primarily using the room. Thus, in UA, maybe Feng Shui can be used to provide a situational bonus or penalty to a specific person (or group of people.)
I’d say that this would probably work as a +/- 10% shift on a normal success, 20% on a matched success or critical. At the time of the roll, the Feng Shui artist determines a target (which can be as narrow as “Dirk Allen” or as broad as “all Dipsomancers” or “the entire Shu family”) and whatever circumstances the room provides a bonus for (financial negotiations, academic study, conceiving a child, etc.). Then, whenever someone who fits the target performs an action related to the circumstance, they get the bonus.
You might also consider Feng Shui rituals for dispersing unnatural magickal effects or exorcising demons.
