I’m running To Go right now, and it’s going okay so far. However, I could use some advice.
Quick Run down of the Situation on the ground:
My players are a TNI squad, and are working with Eugene to screw Dean.
By default, they’re helping Erica Fisher (they’re not sure enough about Mitch to give him the charges.)
We just completed the Atlanta chapter with the current score at 1-Dean 2-Erica 0-Mitch.
My question is what’s a good way to change the Chicago chapter, considering a large chunk of the actions comes from conflict with TNI?
My group will not meet with Dean without trying to kill him (throwing a wet blanket on the first major event in the chapter), and will have no reason to fight TNI (putting a damper on a lot of other events).
I hoping some clever folks can come up with a good work around for me. I(The fact that I’m running a prepublished campaign speaks to my own creativity).
Thanks.
Well, if they’re TNI guys, then it’s entirely possible they’ll get called up to go kill Dean. Maybe instead of Eponymous running around the corner, guns blazing, it’s your PCs going in for the kill at the behest of Mr. Abel. It sounds like that’s what they want to do anyway, so give ’em what they want – only don’t let them pull it off of course. Maybe they kill Dean’s son; that way, you’ve got a nice set-up for some campaign goodness after you’re done with To Go.
That’s true, and they’re already after Dean (for some personal reasons as well as for the boss).
I’ve planned on removing the TNI NPCs in Chicago for direct action all together, but the problem that occurs is much of the conflict in that chapter revolves around getting down and dirty with TNI. The car chase will be difficult without TNI there to start it off.
But you point about To Go being a good starting off point is well taken. A pissed off Godwalker makes for a good villian.
Another possibility is replacing TNI with another cabal as a source of conflict. The Sleepers would be perfect for this: They’ve got guns, scary adepts, and are definitively not going to trust the characters – so violent conflict is fairly likely.
To further complicate matters, maybe one of the Sleepers has a personal grudge with Eugene – remember that the Sleepers already went once after him, and Eugene has a tendency to piss off people.
They probably aren’t too crazy about Erica Fisher (and consequently, Mak Attax) getting mystically empowered, either .
This may also present the characters with a moral dilemma: Provided that they manage to explain their goals to the Sleepers, these may offer some help or assistance to the characters in killing Arkane – provided that they are willing to betray Eugene and Erica, too.
The only thing about using the Sleepers would be that you’d still have to make some major changes. The Sleepers aren’t about to go gunning someone done in the street, nor would they get into a big car chase in the broad daylight on a crowded highway. However, if you wanted to make those changes, the result would be very interesting.
