Howdy folks!
I’ve looked around on this site for ages but never posted anything.. well I have a conundrum and I’m seeking your aid!
I’m going to be starting an UA game sometime soon and was looking for some advice. I figured a few capable folks would probably take a peek here and might offer some suggestions. My dilemma’s are as such…
The PC’s are going to be involved in a robbery of some type (so very Reservoir Dogs and Killing Zoe, I admit to my plagiarismish mannerisms) – the catch is the robbery is for an artifact stored in a safety deposit box in the bowls of the bank..
The first question is does anyone have an idea for an item of significant occult power (one that a duke would spend a significant amount of manpower to get, at a decent amount of risk) that would be in the bank..
I have 2 ideas so far..
1) Abhorred Shears of Atropos – They’re a long pair of cast iron scissors that look odd in shape. The holes seem slightly out of proportion for human fingers, but somehow manage to fit comfortably when a person slides their fingers inside. The blade is long and tapers to a very sharp point, the edges of the shears have brownish-red stains along the edge. The single rivet in the center of the shears appears as an eye…staring out at the people holding it
—-So with the shears, I have no real ideas as to what they’d do for you. Their connected to fate now. I’m in the process of looking through Channels of different magic schools to see what the shears might do, and also what the cost of their abilities might be.
2) The Jars – Eight glass masonry jars tucked away in an oak box. The Jars are the old kind with a seal and the flip lid that locks tight. Inside they have a milk liquid that sparkles in the light, occasionally as you look you can see figures in the liquid – fetal children dancing in the liquid but with the faces of skulls.
—-Again I have no real ideas as to what the Jars would do either. I was thinking they might contain some powerful spirits that are seeking to be freed (possibly the person trying to get the jars is the 9th spirit seeing to release his comrades) Or they’re just filled with major mojo.. like if they break open (dropped or whatever) they spawn some serious unnatural phenomena.
Soooo.. with that can anyone offer their own ideas perhaps? I seek inspiration!
It’s not you, man. The site is borked, but John is busy. Just submit once in the future.

During the Dust Bowl, a Dipsomancer doctor migrating with the hordes started soul sucking premature babies, conceived early due to deprivation, as they died out of despair.
He had a fondness for vodka, hence:
“White Russians” -vodka, milk from a lactating woman, premature birth embyro/infant. Brew to taste.
Erases Failed or Hardened Stress checks but each vessel can also acts as a major charge for a Dipsomancer if consumed. Therapy without the hassle of thought.
The PCs are hired by a Plutomancer to steal it one day prior to a planned TNI job. The next morning, the
call for the exchange meet never comes. The one PC who acted as a contact investigates and finds the Plutomancer dead, his face completely covered in physical stock certificates and duct tape.
There’s a note reading “When I get a hold of the son of a bitch who leaked this, I’m gonna tear his eyeballs out and I’m gonna suck his fucking skull.”
on the corpse, which is a quote from the 1987 film “Wall Street”.
Now the TNI are trying to track down the PCs and word in the Underground has it that a former associate of Dirk Allen, a real cowboy type with boots and everything, is asking
questions in a rather impolite way.
The truth is that the operating TNI cell have gone rogue with out permission from the Mothership. But the Alex Abel hasn’t detected this yet. They’re basically a cell of sociopaths with enough sense and awareness left (in one of them at least) to realize that they’re going insane.
They’re attempting to track down the Jars in order to stave off complete sociopathy. And they’re willing to kill for it. And they’re quite good at that.
Pass the Psychic Bullets around.

Operation Code Name: Menagerie of Useless Broken Shit
Bonus advice: Lose the eye on the shears and then we can talk.
I get a 404 “Parallels” error every time I post, I mean. Just ignore it and it won’t go away, but you can live with it. Like testicular cancer.
Really, you have two questions 1- why does the duke want to protect it and 2- why doesn’t he keep it close to him where he can keep an eye on it. If it was useful, he would likely keep it where he could easily access it or at least protect it.
I think it makes sense that the item has a liability to it. The duke can’t let it be discovered or destroyed, yet wants it far away from him. Or it might have a good use but something bad happens if he keeps it close or uses it too much.
Perhaps the jar holds some of his crippling memories. If it breaks they return to him but he wants it far away from him. Or maybe it holds the fault for something he’s done. As long as the jar is safe no one will find out what he’s done.
As for the shears, maybe they allow the user to hurt someone in much the same way a voodoo doll works. (You cut up a picture of the person and that happens to them). Or perhaps you can cut them out of the universe (Where everyone forgets who they are and no records of them exist.) The drawback being that each second spent in contact with it shortens your life by one day.
Or maybe the Shears allow you to cut away social contacts, friends and such, with the target. Until they are so isolated that suicide seems “rational”.
All one needs is a puppet with strings, consisting of the hair of the target, in order to effect.
