National TV Goes Underground

Jerry Springer’s play for the collective unconscious.

While confession TV shows are rising, the talking cure is losing ground to drug therapy. The Confessor is under attack, intentionally or not, by these TV talk show hosts. In the abstract, the Confessor’s healing communion between Self and Other is being challenged by a mass media bridge between the the Personal and the Social. This new take on the Confessor, combined with the power of television, provides a hotline to the collective unconscious.

This has made the shows very popular among up-and-coming avatars. For example, the Jerry Springer show has become popular among Mystic Hermaphrodites seeking to strengthen their personal association with gender ambiguity. Speaking of Springer, he seems to be in the lead for ascension. According to the ratings board, he’s making the deepest connection to the collective unconscious.

Some people say that the switch has already taken place. (Has anyone heard from Morton Downey Jr. since Clinton made his televised confession?) But the smart money says that the old Confessor is still in play; you’ll notice, despite his fall into gutter-pop icon status and audience chanting, Springer keeps to letter of the Confessor’s path with his “Final Thoughts,” and all his shows are all fully documented for syndication… he even habitually dresses in priest-like all black garb.

Oprah’s role is uncertain, but she may be promoting a broader role for the Host, entirely new and independent of the Confessor’s truth-uncovering legacy. Her play may be throwing enough static into the mix to prevent Jerry’s ascension…
