Fly the black flag and show your guns, and you’ll slip off the cops radar screen.
Power: minor
Cost: 5 minor charges
Effect: If the ritual is successful, the caster’s ship will pass undetected by all vessels associated with a specific nation’s government until the next time it enters an official port. If a government-affiliated vessel from that nation is specifically looking for the rogue ship (as it might if a civilian ship radios in a report about it), it is at -50% to track her down. This vessels from other governments are unaffected by the ritual.
Ritual Action: The ritual requires a national flag that was flown from a military or police vessel of the specified government. The flag must be stained completely black and hoisted on the rogue vessel while the crew chants and brandishes weapons (ritually undermining the State’s authority over violence). If the ship docks at an official port of the flag’s nation while the Flying the Jolly Roger, that individual flag cannot be used again. (The authority of the State is overpowering in their national ports)
Note: An variation of this ritual that affects land vehicles has appeared in the ’50s. It requires a set of license plates stolen from the police of the desired nation. In a federal country (eg: USA, Canada, Germany, China), this only works for a single state or province. The ritual’s effects end when the vehicle enters a licensed gas/service station or a commercial garage. If the driver uses a gas station or garage in the same state as the plates, those plates cannot be used again. (Other state’s troopers and highway patrol are unaffected by the ritual, and will pull over anyone with blacked out plates.)
