Wanna be a god? Doesn’t everyone? This might be the key.
Although it’s not quite ‘5 easy steps’, the idea behind it might work.
1) Join the Invisible Clergy.
2) Get kicked out of the Invisible Clergy one way or another. This puts you into the House of Renuciation.
3) Leave the House of Renuciation.
4) Now that your obsession has completly reversed, start persuing it again.
5) Become the Godwalker of your new obsession. As you were once a member of the Invisible Clergy, you can’t enter it again (maybe), but you still have the power of a Godwalker. You also gain other powers along the way.
This little list was found in a very old book. Somewhere. You got it from your second cousin who got it from a friend of a friend who got it from a little market in some country, and you don’t want to where the guy who sold it got it from. Becoming a god has got to be a lot harder than getting into the IC, but it would mean that you get to stay on Earth. Needless to say, anybody who managed to do it has got to be old. The most well known gods (Zeus, Odin, Thor,), were known to exist long ago, and nobody is sure if what the list says is possible could happen now if it ever could.
Interesting. Kind of a “I can’t believe it’s not the Godwalker” idea. However, who’s to say that Gods get to remain on earth? For that matter, who’s to say that gods are anything more than the folk-loric renditions of those who Ascended writ large by way of myth?
That said, the idea is groovy. Take a look at Neil Gaiman’s novel “American Gods” to get some more ideas along these lines.
Also “Last Call” and “Earthquake Weather” by Tim Powers.
