Among all the homeless drunks in Boston, one of them has discovered the power inherent in his condition.
When you’ve hit bottom and lost everything, you have two choices: start over or give up. Bruno Maxwell decided to embrace the bottom, and he hasn’t looked back.
At age 34, Bruno had an office job, a house in the Boston suburbs, a wife, two sons in grade school, and a drinking problem. In the course of four years, he lost all but the last of those. One night, huddling in the doorway of a shelter that wouldn’t let him in drunk, he marvelled at alcohol’s ability to wash away everything in his life. Alcohol could break down grease stains, inhibitions, reason, and relationships. He started down the path of dipsomancy and eventually became a fixture in Boston’s occult underground, working minor divinations for other dukes and occasionally dealing in paranormal knick-knacks.
The next phase in Bruno’s life came when he fenced a manuscript stolen from a Beacon Hill brownstone occupied by a high-powered duke. The manuscript, supposedly written by a British cryptomancer, outlined the power derived from channeling the gods. Bruno used the manuscript to construct his own vision of the statosphere, and he realized that he had already begun to channel the Outsider, playing up his “drunken crazy homeless man” act to keep people at a distance and preserve his own sense of mystery. He took steps to further solidify his identification with the archetype and now pursues his path single-mindedly.

Isn’t walking the path of the adept and the avatar simultaneously meant to be EXTREMELY bad for your mental health?
No, it CAN be. It’s just that its often hard for people to 1) have a worldview that can accommodate both, and B) make the jump between playing the role and being the role.
You may be thinking of people who practice two different schools of magick, which inevitably results in complete insanity.
No No being an avatar can be bad for your health. If you do it wrong you end up nuts and if you do it right you end up less nuts.
