For the well-read Iconomancer, Ernest Hemingway.

Writer, Drinker, and bullfighting enthusiast.

Ernest Miller Hemingway squeaks through as being just visible enough to be channeled by Iconomancers. In America, Iconomancers who specialize in Hemingway can be found mostly in Key West, Florida, Oak Park, Illinois, and Ketchum, Idaho. Hemingway is most popular with male iconomancers-considering his penchant for hard drinking, war, fishing, and bullfighting, there’s little question why. It’s best not to return phone calls from those channeling Hemingway in the months of June and July, since they’re likely going to try to hit you up for airfare to Pamplona.

Ernest Hemingway: Hemingway’s positive aspects involve his writing and his trademark Masculine behavior, and his negative aspects inspire various types of self destructive activities. For three minor charges, you can write a Short Story; This allows you two write a stirring and persuasive speech, story, or letter for a specific target. If the target reads the article, they are strongly moved by the article, and feel obligated to carry out what it espouses for two hours. Resisting this urge is a rank 5 Self Check.
For two significant charges you can live out one of Hemingway’s dreams and be a Bullfighter. For Bullfighter, the caster states a physical challenge, like “Getting into a fight with Cage”, “outrun these cops that are chasing me”, or “shoot up this guy who’s shooting at me”. For the duration of the challenge, the caster can choose to use his opponent’s skills instead of his own, and vice versa, regardless of the governing stat. So an Iconomancer with body of 40 and struggle of 20 who got into a fight with Cage could cast Bullfighter, and then use Cage’s 55% fighting skill and flip flop it because it’s his obsession, and make Cage use his own 20% skill. This effect lasts until the fight is over.

Negatively invoked, Hemingway could make someone play a Drinking Game– for two minor charges, the target of this spell has a compulsion to drink, which is not sated until he picks up an actual alcohol impairment of -30%. (A dipsomancer could still charge off this, though)
Much worse, for three significant charges, an Iconomancer could recreate an attempt Hemingway made to kill himself, and give someone The Propeller Blues. The blues inspire a bout of intense nihilism in a target that lasts for maybe twenty or thirty minutes, but in this time, the target is under such intense depression that they are not thinking clearly, and driven to do physical harm to themselves. Depending on the personality of the target, this could be instantly deadly, or just embarrassing. A cool, decisive character might be able to make a quick plan in a few minutes, and carry it out- “I’m going to stand in the way of the freight train”, but a foolish and impulsive person might run into a busy Manhattan street to be run down, only to have traffic swerve around him. The victim’s actions are determined by the GM. It’s worth noting that an entropomancer would still charge up from this, though.

For a major charge, an Iconomancer channeling Hemingway would write the great American Novel.

A strong shot of the good stuff. I’m glad someone did a crazy author and Hemingway is great because, instead of being some limp-wristed, blank-eyed philosopher-wannabe or crappy militant hack writer, he had soul and TWO FISTED FURY!

It would be interesting to see a Teddy Rosevelt Icon writeup.
