All you need to start over. But it’s all or nothing…
This is a small attache case, your sterotypical spy-movie prop, brown leather, combination locks, etc. The only thing making it stand out is the words ‘Start Over’ written in red on the top side.
The Start Over can be found anywhere… left behind in a rented locker, found lying in your driveway, delivered by mistake when you ordered something from Ebay. The combination lock can only be opened by the person who found it… someone who is always in dire financial straits.
Inside the case is enough money to pay off all the finder’s debts. It lets the finder essentially start over, financially.
But if any of the money is used for a purpose other than paying debts, the user is forced to start over… they vanish overnight, and reappear quite a ways away, looking different, and with a strange case of amnesia.
Once the money is used (correctly or incorrectly), the case vanishes, only to refill and be found again somewhere…
don’t we all wish we had one of those?
Perhaps there is a corollary relic: a piece of registered mail with Payment Due written on it in red letters. Inside is a single sheet of heavy writing paper bearing a brief handwritten note that explains that in return for the _loan_ the person received, there’s a task they need to perform. Granted it might jeopardize all they’ve achieved since using the briefcase, and the brown ink looks suspiciously like dried blood, but it’s oddly difficult to write it all off as a joke…
