Bucket of Truth

The horrible Truth in a handy-dandy container… Power: Major

Effect: Looking directly in the bucket reveals the Truth… This can be used to discover a particular fact, but it always manages to include some horrible Truth of the Universe. It may be about the invisible clergy, but it might just as well be a mind-fuck. To a human mind, this causes a screaming panic reaction and adds a permanent failed notch to the madness meters. Do not roll Mind, do not collect $200. Don’t leave this thing around children. If you’ve already blown 5-notches on any meter (and become insane accordingly), the bucket can do you no more harm.

Description: An ordinary metal bucket. Go figure.

Oops, this belongs in the “artifacts” section.

Another in the “State” derived humorous goodies.

This is definitely a natural artifact; you can’t just make a bucket of truth.

Also, I’m thinking that the bucket might reflect the original idea better if it blows the rest of the failed notches in your weakest meter, but not necessarily permanently (so it’s possible to get better through therapy).

    That’s just funny…

This artifact that, just manages to be totally mundan and un-weird. Except perhaps if it just appears in random places. (Middle of Subway Platform, Apartment building elevator.)

You look in and sudden are filled with this (Holy Shit! reflex,) and new knowledge about the futility of existence.

    Fucking Bucket!

Awsome, I love it.. It’s in my campaign.

“The State” was a short-lived sketch comedy show in the early 90s. Think along the lines of “Kids in the Hall” and “Upright Citizens Brigade.”

It featured, among other things: flooding the local penny supply with ass-pennies as a way to make a boss less intimidating (he’s got to have handled some of them); forcing people to obey by threatening them with poo-on-a-stick; and a “bucket of Truth.”

Some of these random ideas, like the bucket of truth, just seem like too natural fit; I had to write them up for UA.

Actually… I was wrong… it’s not the State at all. It was an Upright Citizens Brigade skit. Oops.

“DON’T YOU THINK I KNOW THAT?!!”

I love Upright Citizens Brigade. Now that I think of it, UCB is something like a crossover between Paranoia XP and Unknown Armies… hmmm…
