The Big Game Hunter

A hunter who’s trophy collection you do NOT want to see.

(cosmic level)

Surely you’ve heard of him before. A real big time, major league player. Envied by every clockworker in existence.

He was born in 1937 as…uh…someone, somewhere..uh..hmm. Sorry, can’t remember. He knows his father was killed in World War 2. And he remembers his uncle teaching him mechanomancy. But that’s about it. He can’t recall any other personal memory from before becoming the “Big Game Hunter”.

He remembers what his original motive for starting “the hunt” was: he saw the technological boom of the 20th century, and started wondering why it was happening right now. And he started adding two and two: war inspires technology. Read some history, it’s all around. WW2 was the biggest war ever. Therefore it gave the biggest push on tech ever.
Even in those times, mechanomancy was getting old. They knew it had to be renewed to continue. And then he got it: to improve his own machines he has to go to war on his own. He has to go on a hunt. Sure thing, but what should he hunt?
With magick like his he has only one worthy prey: animals with magick. Unnatural beings.

And the hunt began.

He learned everything he could about the unnatural. He started small, constructing traps to catch fairies. And over the years the prey got bigger and bigger. And so did his guns. Every hunt is an adventure. The prey is always special, always something he can’t catch with his current gadgets. There’s always room for improvement. So far he hunted fairies, carnals, tenebrae, demons, astral parasites, entropics, nonentities, thaumophages, thaumovores, unspeakable servants, and a bunch of creatures you can’t even imagine.
He has never killed a human being…at least,he doesn’t remember killing one. Neither did he kill automata, they’re too human to him.

The thrill of the hunt lasted for decades. Man, does he have stories to tell! But… he hates to admit it,but he’s getting old. For years now he had a “been there, done that” feeling towards everything. The only time he feels some faint joy is when he finds new, exotic prey and gets to design new equipment. And when he gets to brag about it.

Obsession: (Mechanomancy) War always gives a boost to technology, this is a historical fact. He thinks of hunting as a “personal war”, a way to improve his machinery.

Personality: Senile as f*ck. He remembers nothing from his live before becoming a clockworker. He loves bragging about what a great hunter he is, and showing his trophies around.

Shirley

“Did I ever tell you youngsters about the time I was hunting unspeakable servants in Russia on the back of my clockwork elephant?”
“Honey, that was in India. And yes, you told them the story before. Now would you boys like some tea?”

The Hunter’s loving wife and clockwork automaton.(Made in china, 1978) Also serves as his memory bank.

Lightgun

This device was originally built to hunt tenebrae. Basically, it’s a lightbulb surrounded by a bunch of strangely arranged mirrors and the handle of some old pistol. When the trigger is pulled the bulb turns on and the mirrors reflect all the light in a single spot. It can make flamable objects catch fire in three seconds and if held at living beings it’s like a firearm with a maximum damage cap of 30. The little clockwork battery runs out after five hours of use, it takes ten minutes to wind it up.

Spiders (x12)

These small but swift mechanical spiders are the hunter’s most commonly used gadgets. About ten inches big, capable of throwing a net at their target, climbing any wall, and armed with two syringes full of lethal venom.

Wound points: 25
Body: 25
Speed: 50

Speed skills: Throw net 50% Inject venom 50% Hide 50%

De-demonizer

This thing looks sort of like a sniper rifle with clockwork telescope, firing device, and a funnel attached to the top. It also has two bottles of whiskey attached to the side, both with rubber hoses leading from their insides to the inside of the machine. It fires marbles filled with whiskey, and if they hit someone possessed by a demon the demon has to make a soul check or flee from the body. The gun can hold twelve marbles at a time, and can be reloaded throught the funnel. The telescope ensures perfect aim for up to three miles.

Free energy grenades

These little machines are small but very efficient perpetual motion machines. They overload five seconds after being activated (in combat: the turn after the turn they were activated). When they explode they fire shards of metal everywhere, and everyone who isn’t behind some shelter takes firearm damage with a maximum damage cap 50-(the distance between the target and the grenade in feet).

Decapitalizer

This is a pipe with springs and gears sticking out the side, and a gun handle. When the trigger is pulled the gears wind up the springs, and when they release it fires out a spining sawblade. Perfect for mutilating the target. No damage cap. Every hit cuts something off, a matched success can cut off a limb or something vital, a 01 causes instant death.

Clockwork armor

A bunch of metal plates held together by chains. You can see another layer of gears beneath. When wound up and turned on the metal plates spring out of their place and block every oncoming bullet and hand-to-hand attack. Basically he becomes invulnerable. The downside is that it winds down in five minutes. When wound down it behaves like an ordinary bulet-proof vest. It takes an hour to wind up.

These are only the devices he’s most proud of, his other gadgets include: fairy traps, “minigun-on-acid”, servant dissolver, racket launcher, and many more.

What you heard: Currently a large number of museum thefts are credited to the Big Game Hunter. He’s collecting some pretty serious stuff, to “catch the biggest game ever”. Accordind to Shirley he wants to hunt something “that will rise from the ocean when the stars are right”. What the hell is that supposed to mean? You don’t think?…nah…perhaps he’s just losing his marbles. I hope.
