A voodoo doll that is not just a tool, but an accomplice.
The tale of this artifact starts with a proper Victorian lady in London who, via her husband, got involved with the infamous Hellfire Club. The secretive club was a haven for a vast variety of S&M play, in which all members were expected to participate. Vicky was creeped out at first, but gradually got into it, discovering a particular taste for the thrill of certain dangerous variants such as knife play.
Then, one day an accident happens: Vicky is killed in a scene that went a little too far. The club’s members cover up the event and dispose of Vicky’s body while her soul goes beyond the Veil, rather unhappy at the turn of events.
A century later, an adept in London has managed to acquire a major charge. He is working on building it into an eternal use artifact for his blast spell, in the form of a voodoo doll. Coincidentally, he’s doing this in the very same house Vicky got killed in. The spell doesn’t work quite as intended, and Vicky’s soul wakes inside the doll…
Vicky is a cloth and wax doll about a foot tall with generic features. The doll’s body is covered with stitches and other signs of repair. When an adept of any school first approaches the doll it will suddenly sit up and greet him in a cheery high-pitched voice, quite eager to explain what she’s good for, and even more eager to be used.
Vicky’s powers are “primed” by giving her something to associate her with the intended victim. This could be simply telling her the victim’s name, giving her a scrap of the victim’s clothing to drape over herself, dressing her in doll clothes closely resembling what the victim happens to be wearing at the moment, etc.
Once the connection is created, simply torturing the doll will cause the victim to suffer pain; this will cause the victim to suffer a -20% shift on any activity for as long as the torment is going on. Vicky herself doesn’t actually feel anything.
Furthermore, an adept of any school can add a minor blast spell into the torture. The blast will be channeled to the victim, with its normal effects; this is equivalent to the “Long Distance” option for minor blasts, but the adept won’t need to add a significant charge – he only pays the regular cost for the blast.
The doll is disturbingly eager to be used, and appears to get a vicarious thrill out of the idea that someone, somewhere is suffering as she’s played with. She will often suggest new torture techniques, for which she has a wide experience and a vicious imagination. She can move, albeit clumsily, and if necessary could use her basic torture power on someone all of her own…
This is my first entry here. Criticism and suggestions are highly welcome.
I am already quite disturbed, so this must be a good artifact idea.
