Hello? is it me you’re looking for? :P

Anyone else had a payphone just start ringing when ur alone in the street?

Don’t you hate it when a payphone rings? You wonder who’s there. Probably kids in a nearby house playing a joke. Maybe a random stranger reaching out for someone. Maybe the phone company testing the lines.
It used to really get on my nerves, especially when I found that it was occurring more and more often. By now, whenever I walk past a payphone alone at night, it rings. It scares the hell out of me and I run past.
It isn’t just payphones either. I get calls all the time from unknown numbers. Sometimes phones in bars ring but they stop if I move away… never sure if it’s just a coincidence.
The payphones are predictable now. I still can’t quite pick it up though. It’s driving me nuts.
I confided in someone and of course, the phone didn’t ring no matter how many we walked past. I was woken up at 1 am by an unknown number on my mobile.
It’s been like this for a year or so now. I don’t own a mobile any more, and I try to avoid walking the streets at night.
I found myself unable to sleep until I bought a new phone. It rings all the time, continuously without breaks. It’s been doing it for four weeks and I haven’t left the house. I feel ill. I gotta answer it sooner or later. Oh god… ok… I can do this…

– This message was allegedly heard by an enthusiast listening to the receiver of a lever and earpiece style telephone in the Alexander Graham Bell Museum. It has never been connected.
