Javascript generator based on narrative formula from the back of 2nd Ed rules.
There are so many great ideas floating around out there, even on this website, that I usually have more than enough stuff for my UA campaigns.
But sometimes I need a subplot on the fly or I just run into a log-jam of ideas. So I cobbled together a little online generator to spit out a very basic Instigator-Instigation-McGuffin-Interested Parties-type backstory.
The generator churns out some text that’s a little too complex in places, but it also provides randomized postmodern-sounding names for cabals, references to a random ritual ingredient, a mention of a well-known or quirky piece of mainstream occultism (like an ancient goddess, a mystery cult or, in a couple cases, thinly-disguised literary references.) It also provides a very weak hook, but it’s often all I need to kick-start my brain.
I hope you have a chance to check it out!
I completely forgot to add the URL to my vaunted generator. Here it is:

Ah heh. Sorry about that.
This is awsome. This seems to generate better plot than some GMs and most movies, books and computer games.
Yeah. It’s a pretty good formula. I feel I should reiterate that you can find a manual copy of it in the back of the UA book! There’s also a quick-start character generator on the pages, but it’s only meant for, like, throwing together pre-gens for a con game or inspiring timid creators.
