Indy’s Fedora

An adept’s idea of a joke, or something much more sinister?

(I must give credit where credit is due. The concept for this artifact came from one of my roommates; I took it and ran with it.)

Lately, members of the occult underground have been struggling to understand a strange new artifact that’s been floating around. It looks like the actual fedora used by Harrison Ford during the filming of the Indiana Jones movies. There doesn’t seem to be anything unusual about it; just a worn, durable movie prop which might fetch a pretty penny in an online auction.

However, when someone places the hat on their head, they instantly begin to hear the theme music from the films looping in their head. Nobody else hears it; the user retains their free will.

That’s it. Just the music. No bursts of heroism, no surge of manliness pumping through your blood, no desire to go out and fight some Nazis… and that’s getting people worried. Some claim it’s a failed attempt at an artifact, made an amateur Videomancer. Others theorize it’s the start of a new Iconomancy ritual. The skeptics agree it’s strange, to be sure, but it doesn’t merit such a paranoid investigation. A few think it’s just a stupid prank. The rest say that the fedora hasn’t unleashed its true potential yet: maybe it needs to be worn for long enough, or maybe worn by enough people, or maybe it gets its power by being worn by Harrison Ford, or… you get the idea.

It’s currently being kept in the Smithsonian American History Museum in Washington, DC. A cabal of concerned members of the occult underground keep it under lock and key as museum staff by day, but sneak it out at night in order to examine it closer, trying to probe for the secrets it might hold.

What, you’ve never played Diablo 2?

It’s a “set” item. Nearly useless by itself.

When somebody finds the whip and the book with Hitler’s autograph, then I’ll start to worry.

    Don’t you mean “Top Men!”

I bet they’re just not using it in the right situations. Or rather, the right situation hasn’t found anyone while they were using the hat.
Am I the only one that remembers the old joke about how Indy survived the movies?

    What old joke?
Some think the fedora will only work when Harrison Ford is dead…

I know I’m cooler when wearing a normal fedora. I can’t see this NOT inspiring huge bursts of heroism
