There’s something watching you from behind your mirrors…
Beyond the mirror’s reflection is a world, endlessly reflecting our own. In this world are the images of those reality forgot: the Unreflected.
The Unreflected used to exist. They used to be real people, with real families, friends, and loved ones. But every trace of their existence vanished the instant they crossed the barrier of reflection. Now, as far as reality, and everyone within reality, is concerned, they never existed in the first place.
Most Unreflected try in vain to communicate with those they used to know, and eventually the isolation becomes too much. They begin to doubt they even existed at all. And one day, they curl up, let go, and vanish forever.
But there are some who won’t let go. Who can’t let go. Because in place of despair, there is rage. Rage at the world and the people who forgot them. The kind of rage which eats people’s hearts, devouring them from the inside. Rage grows as the years pass, until it consumes them completely. They don’t remember who they were. They can’t remember their names. But they know they were betrayed by everyone they ever loved.
That raw, undiluted rage infects them like a cancer, becomes them, and then changes them. Their residual image shatters to pieces, like glass, and then recombines into a twisted, jagged, unnatural creature of glass shards and screaming reflections: a Shatterfreak.
Newly formed Shatterfreaks immediately begin to stalk the person they trusted most. They consume the victim’s reflection, taking its place. When the victim is alone, and looking in the mirror, the Shatterfreak begins to make its move.
First, it stops mirroring its victim’s actions. It stands absolutely still. The instant the victim realizes his reflection isn’t moving, the Shatterfreak strides forward, hissing accusations in a twisted, ghostly voice.
When the Shatterfreak reaches the mirror, it steps through and the mirror shatters, coalescing around the creature, revealing its true form: a human-shaped abomination of jagged glass shards, holding within its body the sobbing, screaming reflection of its victim. Witnessing a Shatterfreak’s entrance is a rank-7 Unnatural check.
As Shatterfreaks are made of broken glass, all its attacks are treated as +6 weapons (heavy and penetrating). It always inflicts at least 1 point of damage, even if it misses. Any barehanded attacks against it inflict the same amount of damage to its attacker, plus 3.
Bullets pierce right through it, doing little damage, but heavy, bashing weapons shatter its body easily. Treat all firearms damage (except from shotguns) like hand-to-hand damage, and all heavy-weapon hand-to-hand damage like firearms damage.
As Shatterfreaks are attacked, glass shards fly off. Through an unknown force, some of the glass flies right back into place, making Shatterfreaks tough to destroy. The glass which doesn’t reassemble litters the floor, and can provide a nasty cut to anyone moving barefoot or falling on the floor.
Shatterfreaks are not content to simply kill their victim. They wish to make them wallow in the same suffering. Shatterfreaks will attempt to embrace their victim, transfixing them. Right before the victim dies, the Shatterfreak will seem to implode, shattering bloody glass everywhere. This tears the victim out of reality, much like an Unreflected. The Shatterfreak adds the victim’s sobbing, screaming form within its glass body, and starts the cycle anew by stalking the person the victim trusted most. No one knows if the Shatterfreak absorbs the victim’s soul or merely steals his image.
If confronted when it’s not stalking a victim, the reflections within its body shift between the screaming visages of its original form and its transfixed victims.
If destroyed, the Shatterfreak breaks apart into normal glass shards. The victim’s reflection fades back in over the course of a minute.
Shatterfreak (Significant)
Walking Maelstrom of Shattered Souls
Body: 80 + 10x number of victims (Broken glass walking)
Speed: 20-50 (Shambling)
Mind: 40 (Single-minded)
Soul: 0 (No remorse, no pity, no mercy)
Skills
Rend (+6 hand-to-hand): 30 + 10x number of victims
A Shatterfreak will lash out at its victim, slicing deep with its glass limbs. When its victim is weak, or it tires of inflicting pain, it will try a sucker attack to inflict the Transfix cherry. Likewise, it will attempt to Transfix its victim if it rolls a successful cherry.
Screech: 30 + 10x number of victims
A Shatterfreak may sometimes grind the glass in its body together, producing a terrible, echoing, mind-rending screech, like hundreds of nails scraping against a chalkboard. On a successful screech, everyone affected suffers a -30% skill shift. The shift drops to -20% the second round, -10% the third round, and finally disappears as the echoing fades. Players are allowed a mind check each round to drop the effect by 10%. Hearing a Shatterfreak’s screech causes a rank-3 Unnatural check
Transfix (cherry)
The Shatterfreak will attempt to grab and impale its victim in its jagged embrace. This works similar to Kung Fu Grip, except on the round after it grabs its victim (and each round after), it deals 20 points of damage each round, never releasing unless it or its victim dies.
What you hear…
There’s been a series of incidents in New York that have been puzzling the NYPD: Apparent murders without victims. The crime scenes are all empty rooms or houses, and all investigators find are pools of blood, bloody glass shards, and some kind of broken mirror. There are never any fingerprints at the scene of the crime, and the blood doesn’t match any known person in the US.
One Adrian Smith was checked into the local hospital two days ago with several deep lacerations. He seems completely traumatized, and police have had no luck getting him to describe his attacker.
However, the NYPD just issued an APB to be on the lookout for Leonard Ashe, a private detective whose fingerprints have just been found at the crime scene where Adrian was attacked.

Yes, I submitted that one earlier. Shatterfreaks and Unreflected are similar, and certainly linked, but not the same.
Nice, creepy… I gotta get a game going!
