Mr. Teeth

Everything has price, and his will hurt

Mr. Teeth
What’s does Mr. Teeth look like? Well, he was well dressed, nice suit, but nothing flashy.
His face? Dark hair, dark eyes, I think… It was dark okay, and that smile was so distracting. Yeah, that fucking smile, and those teeth. They were huge. No, not inhuman, just big. Kept looking back, expecting them to be these massive pointy things, but they weren’t. In my dreams that all I see, that smile, with big pointy teeth.
You want to meet him? Sure, here’s a number. Doesn’t lead anywhere, but if you leave a message he’ll find you.
Yeah, he’ll have what you need, but it’ll cost. Cost you something you’ll miss.
Money? Don’t make me laugh. You want to deal in money you don’t call Mr. Teeth. You call him when you want something money can’t buy, and he calls you when you’re willing to pay anything.
Leave the bottle.

Mr. Teeth is the fixer of the occult underground. An avatar of the Merchant, he stopped dealing in currency a long time ago. Or at least in the usual way, he’ll buy the first dollar you ever made, or trade for a tarnished silver coin. Mostly he deals in immaterials, desires, memories, or the most valuable trade of all, information. But he’ll deal in rarities too.
Adepts seek him out, rare tomes for the bookworms, machines for the tinkers, you name it he’ll be able to find it. For a price. And even the most delusional of adepts hesitate before paying what Mr. Teeth asks.
Sometimes Mr. Teeth searches out a client, and when he does he’s always buying. Most people are more than willing sell, because he offers to buy your pain, your fears your regrets, your addictions. These acts would seem like charity, but he doesn’t take them for free. He’s a trader, and he pays for what he takes.
Not much is known of Mr. Teeth’s past. Some say he sold it. He certainly sold his name, and bought the name Mr. Teeth.

Important Deals. Mr. Teeth has bought and sold a number of important things in the past. Here a few.
That Fucking Smile: Distracting far beyond what its physical appearance merits. Look away and you’re sure the teeth are pointed, even though you know they’re not. Power extends to mystical sensing as well, fail against the roll and the only thing you remember is a smile and pointed teeth.
Call Me Mr. Teeth: He sold his name. Nothing mystical will reveal anything besides Mr. Teeth. Mundane methods will find a variety of aliases, none lead anywhere.
Taxi: There is always a car waiting for Mr. Teeth. The driver doesn’t notice anything.

It’s good so far as descriptives go (a man that all anyone remembers is teeth, a taxi, and a deal), but what sets him apart from the Bad Man (for example) except for the extra anonymity thanks to That Fucking Smile?

Which, I gotta say, I love. TFS is pretty great. And I like the implications that someone, somewhere, previously had TFS. Someone, somewhere, was someone that universe always made sure had a taxi waiting.

It’s just… every high-level Merchant avatar can get you the weird and/or non-material stuff that you want/need and takes an unexpectedly high price for it. Most use elaborate defenses for their privacy/anonymity.

I’m actually more intrigued by who he bought Taxi and who he bought TFS from. Those sounds like people who live… interesting… lives.

Good points. He isn’t supposed to be the main character in a campaign, just resource the PCs can use if they are particularly desperate, or as a source of plot hooks. But if they try to find out more about him, well TFS.

Also, unlike some Merchants, he sometimes hunts out people to buy from.

The other bits that make him a little more interesting are the parts I forgot to post. His passions and Obsession. Basically, he’s not a bad man. He never tricked you, You Did It.

I’ve edited it to include them now

How the heck do you edit a submission?

    anyways
Obsession: Buying that which is most important.
Mr. Teeth doesn’t like trading small. He doesn’t like people who waste his time. He makes deals that matter, deals that hurt.

    Passions:
    Rage: Fakes and counterfeits
    Fear: Being Silenced (Helplessness)
Noble: Keeping up his end of the deal

Unlike some avatars of the merchant Mr. Teeth believes in being an honest trader. He always follows through on his deals and if he is fooled into buying something other than what he bargained for, he will pay back that injury in.

I like the “Fear” stimulus, gives him more personality than just being another Merchant Avatar.
