Do memes change reality? Perhaps. Maybe even worse, they change unreality. Then, they channel that unreality and bring it across. I mean, what the kek?
The Memomancer channels unreality via symbolic representation. The Memomancer draws a representation of some real world object or creature that is symbolic of some unreal object, end state, or condition they would like to see exist. The drawing is imbued with charges and then brings something into existence.
Generate a Minor Charge: Create an artistic representation of something that will soon be important or popular but that isn’t yet. It has to be spread via sort of underground movement that isn’t well respected or liked by the art or publishing world. Once the image, song, or meme “pops”, you get the charge. (GM has creative latitude on what “pops” means.)
Generate a Significant Charge: Start a movement becomes a new genre of whatever medium or art form you start generating Minor Charges within. You can switch art forms as a PC, but you need to start the new movement within an art form or medium you’ve used to generate a minor.
Generate a major charge: Invent a new genre or medium after you’ve generated a significant charge and train an apprentice Memomancer so well that they are able to generate Minor Charges using your invention.
Taboo: You cannot gun for popularity. It always has to be a result of your artistic purity. Once you “sell out” for money or attention, they charges go kaput. It’s been called Banksy Suckage or Post-Mustaine Metallica State.
Symbolic Tension: The Memomancer is constantly trying to channel the supernatural via art. They lose connection by being concerned about landing gigs or shows at an art museum or anything that a real artist would kill to have. Real world concerns like selling a few portraits to make rent will break any connection.
Random Domain: Art, Symbolism, Bridges and Channels
Blast Style: Memomancy doesn’t have a direct blast, but he indirectly attacks people by bringing evil things over from unreality.
Minor Formulas:
Picture Yourself as a …..
2 minor charges
The Memomancer draws or represents herself as a professional able to do some task at a very high level. Then, starting at some time within twelve hours after the spell is cast, the Memomancer speaks a trigger word and for a two hour period, they have the requisite skill at level 80.
Say “Hello” to My Liddle Friend
2 Minor Charges
The Memomancer creates an art work that represents some bizarre, Cthulu-like creature that will attack a targeted individual 1 combat round after the Memomancer speaks the command phrase. It will have 35 HP and do Minor Blast Damage if it can bite, sting, slime or otherwise successfully hit its target. It will brainlessly attack until it kills or is slain.
Winky, Winky
1 minor charge per person
The Memomancer and anyone else he spends a minor on; gets admitted to some place without being checked or charged a fee or what ever non-physical barrier exists to admission. It doesn’t levitate you over a locked gate or let you walk these people through a locked door. It only makes security people or door bouncers not do their job for 1 iteration.
Portrait of Hate
4 minor charges
The Memomancer channels mystical ill-will and targets it at one individual. This involves a hideous portrait of nasty song, story or poem about the person. All who see the “artwork” and then see that person within the next five days are compelled to do something short of physically attacking that individual to screw them over as hard as possible. get them cancelled, make them lose money, friends, a job or a romantic relationship, et al. They feel highly motivated to get the target.
Significant Formulas:
Make ‘Em Famous
1 significant charge
A master-work created by the Memomancer makes someone famous or infamous (-20/+20) adjustment to any roll involving charisma or reputation for the next month.
Make It Based or 8-Up
2 Significant Charges
Make an organization or political stance or some intangible idea more or less palatable/well-liked. Personal reactions to the spell target are at (-20/+20).
Book Him, Danno!
2 significant charges
Like the Say “Hello to my Liddle Friend spell except the thing has 70 HP and does significant blast damage with each hit to up to three specified targets until they are dead or it is destroyed. The targets all have to be within the caster’s visual field to be targeted and “Danno” will leave and chase anyone who escapes until “Danno” can no longer see or smell the target. Danno vanishes once the encounter terminates.
Do or Die
3 significant charges
Anyone within sight of the caster’s artwork, meme or within hearing of a poetry, story or song must make a level 7 Self-Check or join a mob that does whatever the caster tells them to do provided it is stupid or violent. The caster has to include some brainless, repetitive chant in the artwork somehow. (Handle the mob according to game rules). The caster’s spell will fail if the artwork is artificially illuminated or amplified to reach a wider audience since this violates the school’s symbolic tension.
Join or Die
2 Significant Charges
If the caster is forming a new school to gain a Major Charge, they can mentally enslave them by channeling a demon to possess them and make them follow for a while. The caster has to arrange for the demon to participate somehow. The caster then has the problem of the demon charging if he trains it well enough.
Major Effects: Create a new religious cult that worships your graven image or uses the Memomancer’s script as a holy tract. Wake up Cthulhu by making a really ugly sculpture that reminds people of the sleeping god.
What You’ve Heard: A small dictatorship in Central Africa hired this guy to be Minister of Propaganda. Now there’s this group in that country that worships a stripped tree lizard and you see them all wearing polo shirts with the lizard as a logo all over the country……
